Harvesting

Harvesting

Paddy is generally harvested at about 20-25 per cent moisture content. It is dried to about 16 to 20 per cent moisture before threshing .It is generally threshed manually by hand. The produce is also threshed by thresher machine, Paddy peddler. Delayed harvesting reduced the yield caused due to rodents, birds’ pests or natural hazards, therefore timely harvesting is essential. Harvesting should be done when more than 90 per cent grains turned into greenish tint color and the moisture content reached less than 25 per cent, but for combine harvesting it should be less than 20 per cent.
