Climatic Requirement
Climatic Requirement:
The crop is of tropical and subtropical climate it can be grown successfully from sea level to an altitude of 1800 meters on hill slopes as well as in plains. It is very hardy crop and can be grain in areas having annual rainfall between 50 to 100 cm. In region of higher rainfall it can be raised on well drained soils as a transplanted crop. It can be grown under rainfed as well as irrigated conditions.
In Sikkim it is generally grown during kharif season when there is enough rainfall. But it is also taken as Rabi and Summer crop in other places.
