Nutrient Management
Organic nutrient management
The crop responds to organic manure, hence, the addition of adequate quantities of organic matter in to soil is considered beneficial for physical conditions which help soils to retain moisture for a longer period of time. Apply about 5 tonnes FYM and/or compost or vermicompost @ 2.5 t/ha 15-30 days prior to sowing of the crop (Reza, S. K.
2014. Pers. Communication). Bio-fertilizers like Azospirillum brasilense (N-fixing bacterium) and Aspergillus awamori (P-solubilizing fungus) is also useful and may be applied @ 25 g/kg seed. Adhesive gum Arabic, jaggery etc. is also to be used in solution form since it is necessary for effective seed inoculation. This can be prepared by dissolving 25 g jaggery or sugar in 250 ml water and boiling for 5 minutes. The solution, thus prepared is cooled and thereafter, smeared on the seeds using the required quantity of adhesive solution. Then add culture to the seeds and mix thoroughly so as to get a fine coating of the culture on the seed. The culture-coated seeds are to be shade-dried to avoid clumping.
