Varieties
The following varieties are recommended by the food security and agriculture development department, Govt of Sikkim, Gangtok i.e. “Sonalika, VL-738, VL-616, VL-262 , VL-804, VL-829, HD series especially HD-2687, PBW- 343, UP-262, K-88” etc. along with these varieties a number of new varieties of wheat seeds are given every year under “Minikit Programme” from which the farmers and the VLW of the area can select the best variety suited for different climatic and cultural conditions. Sonalika proved highest yielder both as rainfed and irrigated crop with an average yield of about 3600 to 4000 kg per hectare in Sikkim.
