Q. What are the different micro-organisms by which we can treat black gram seeds?

Ans. The microorganisms used for treating seeds are

Rhizobium sp.,
Azotobacter sp.,
Azospirillum sp.,
Pseudomonas striata,
P. putida, P. liquifaciens,
Bacillus polymixa,
B. megatherium var. phophaticum,
B. subbtilis,
B circulans, A
spergillus awamori,
A. flavus, A. fumigatus,
Pencillium digtatum,
P. lilacinum etc.

Q. What are PSB? Give some examples of PSM.

Ans. PSB means phosphate solubilizing microorganism. These are the bacteria that can solubilize the soil phosphates from insoluble to soluble form. Then the plants can easily uptake phosphorus from soil.

Examples of PSM are Pseudomonas striata, Bacillus polymixa, Aspergillus awamoori, etc.

Q. How can I treat black gram seeds with Rhizobium and PSB culture?

Ans. The seeds of black gram may be treated with Rhizobium and PSB by the following simple method:
 

  • Prepare jaggery solution (250 gm jaggery in 400-500 ml water) by boiling.
  • Let it cool down.
  • Take Rhizobium and PSB in 1:1 ratio (200 gm each).
  • Pour this solution over the heap of seeds to be treated.
  • Mix the seeds homogenously.

Spread the seeds over clean floor or on plastic sheet or on clean gunny bag for drying under shade.

Note:

  • This solution is sufficient for 10 kg seeds only.
  • The seeds should not be exposed to direct sunlight before sowing. Because it will decrease the ability of Rhizobium.
