Organic nutrient management
Green pea is sensitive to soil acidity. Adequate liming of acid soils is essential for good growth. Peas do not have a particularly high demand for nutrients. Being a leguminous crop, the pea does not require high doses of nitrogen. Apply about 15-20 t/ha of well-decomposed organic manure like compost or FYM and/or vermicompost @ 2.5 to 3.5 t/ha either alone or in combination with FYM for an ideal crop in case of very light soils (Reza, S. K. 2014. Pers. Communication). Besides, application of manures, it is essential to treat the seed with Rhizobium inoculum for better nodulation, plant vigour and higher grain yield. Initially the crop should be supplied with vermicompost / bokashe / oil cakes or any organic manure @ 2 t /ha as a starter dose.
