Climatic Requirement

Climatic Requirement :

Soybean grows well at 15 to 320 C temperatures. But for rapid growth it needs slightly higher temperature. The crop does not grow if the temperature falls below 100 C but at the same time if it goes above 400 C the crop gets a greater setback in its growth, flowering, seed formation or even in the seed quality. It is reported that cold temperature lowers the oil content and requires about 60-65 cm annual rainfall. It needs irrigation if the rainfall is less than 65 cm; however higher rainfall is equally or more harmful than lower one because higher moisture at germination causes rotting of seeds and seedlings and at later stages of growth, excess water causes anaerobic conditions, poor nodulation and poor growth and yield of the crop. Drought at flowering or just before flowering results in flower and pod drops while rain during maturity impairs the grain quality of soybean.
