Water and Irrigation

Water and Irrigation :

The rape seed-mustard crops are usually grown on conserved moisture received during monsoon rain-fed crops. As the farmers realize the advantage of irrigation, the cultivation has also been shifted to irrigated (62.4%) and only 37.6% is rain-fed, timely irrigation substantially increase yield (25-32%) through effective utilization of applied nutrients. Mustard requires about 31-40 cm of water. If there is no rain, first irrigation should be provided by giving two irrigations-first at flowering/branches stage (30 days after sowing) and second at pod (siliqua) formation stage (60-65 days after sowing) in a crop of 110-120 days duration.
