IPM
State Bio-Control Lab (IPM) was established in the year 1999 at Tadong near ICAR complex under Agriculture Department.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) deals with the integration of different methods with an aim to keep the pest population below Economic Threshold Level (ETL)
The different aspects of IPM comprises of Cultural, Preventive Measures, Mechanical Control, Biological Control, Surveillance, Forecasting, Habitat Analysis, Crop Husbandry, Impact Analysis, Technology Transfer, Human Resource besides conservation of natural enemies.
IPM wing of the Department deals with effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management. It serves as the primary contact point for communication about and consultation on pest management activities.
Various activities under IPM section:
- Production of Bio- control agents such as Trichogramma sp (egg –parasitoid) and Trichoderma sp (bio-fungicides)
- Trial / demonstration for evaluting the Bio-efficacy of Botanicals/ Bio pesticides on management of Fall Army worm (FAW) and other seasonal pests of maize.
- Monitoring, scouting and collection of pest and diseases specimens.
- Awareness cum Training to the farmers on Fall Army worm (FAW) in maize and other seasonal pests and diseases of various crops.
- Management of FAW at infested areas.
- Data collection of different pests found in Sikkim.
