About The Organization

North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Ltd. (NERAMAC) incorporated in 31st March 1982 is a Govt. of India Enterprise with its Head Quarters at Guwahati, Assam. The main objective of this corporation is agricultural prosperity and providing remunerative prices to the farmers of North Eastern States including Sikkim for their produces by minimizing market intermediaries and middlemen. Over more than 27 years, this corporation is serving to the growers of Agriculture-Horticulture, also minor forest produces like medicinal herbs and hill grass and bamboo based products. NERAMAC also supplies agro- horticulture inputs like planting materials, improved seeds, tools & technology, organic fertilizers and vermi compost, construction of high-tech green houses, poly-houses and shed nets all over India under NHM,NBM &RKVY.

With the aim to strengthen development of the agriculture-horticulture infrastructure to maximise the production capacity, NERAMAC is devoted in Sikkim since 02.06.2008 having its full-fledged Zonal office at Tadong, East Sikkim. With experience and interaction at the grass root level this Zonal Office has realized about the marketing weakness in entire Sikkim and has taken up marketing programme to procure agro-horticulture produces directly from the farmer groups, SHGs, MPCS, NGOs and GPUs.

During the year 2008-09 we have provided the remunerative prices to the local farmers for their produces like mandarin orange (7.5 lakh pieces) and during 2009-10 it rose up to 16.5 lakh pieces. We also procured ginger, fresh vegetables, large cardamom, cherry chilli, pulses and hill grass. On pilot basis we have opened collection centres at Naya Bazar in West Sikkim and Rangpo in East Sikkim. We have also opened Sales centre at Siliguri Wholesale Regulated Market and helped the orange and ginger growers of Sikkim. We have already constructed two high-tech green houses for Sikkim State Horticulture Department at Majitar in East Sikkim and Bardang in West Sikkim. We have supplied fruit, flower and bamboo planting materials to state Horticulture Department and ICAR under Horticulture and Bamboo Mission.

We are focusing to maximize procurement of surplus produces of organic vegetables, large cardamom, turmeric, chilli etc, in the year 2010-11 with priority for the safeguard and benefit of the farmers. NERAMAC is going to conduct large cardamom auction at Rangpo from the coming season- November 16th 2010 at Rangpo (East Sikkim) to ensure price to the farmers.

Marketing Strategy

The main objective of the corporation is agricultural prosperity and to provide better prices to the farmes for their produce in the North-East Region including Sikkim.

NERAMAC is playing very significant role by sourcing, procuring and marketing cash crops like ginger, fresh pineapple, cashew nuts etc. from the farmers/growers of the region. One of the mandates of the company is to assist the small scale processing units of North East to market their products in terminal markets.

The main objectives of NERAMAC are –

  • To purchase the marketable surplus of fruits and vegetables from the growers of the North Eastern India
  • To make necessary arrangement for its processing and marketing
  • To support farmers and producers through input supplies for better productivity under the aegis of Central Sector schemes like NHM, NBM and RKVY etc.
 

NERAMAC focuses the marketing of naturally grown agro-horticultural products of North East like orange, pineapple, kiwi, strawberry, fresh ginger, turmeric, black- pepper, bay leaves, cashew nuts, large cardamom, sesame, tamarind, areca nut (supari), true potato seeds and minor forest produces like grass broom etc.

NERAMAC also deals with processed fruit products like jam, jelly, juice, squash, pickles, pineapple, juice concentrate and cashew nuts.

Farmers’ Approach to the Organization

NERAMAC has its zonal offices in all the state capital of the North-East Region. The other offices are in Kolkata and Delhi. NERAMAC has opened few retail outlet and procurements centers for the development of their marketing activities. By and large the farmers approach the organization through these units.

Auction centers in Sikkim

NERAMAC started the auction Program of large cardamom during the year 2010-11 and conducted successfully seven auctions first of its kind in the region. The auction centre at Rangpo holds two auctions in a month during the season.

In the process of auctioning the large cardamom farmers bring their produces and the bidder offers their rate in the presence of the farmers which is a transparent process. Further NERAMAC is going to introduce e-auctioning Program in the near future.
