Method of Preparation of Some Fungicides and the Treatment of Seed/Plants
Method of Preparation of Some Fungicides and the Treatment of Seed/Plants:
Bordeaux mixture (4:4:50):
Dissolve 2 kg of powdered Copper Sulphate in 125litres of luke warm water in a wooden/plastic or earthen vessel. Do not dissolve in a metallic vessel, Slake 2 kg of lime in another vessel. When lime is completely slaked add enough water to bring it up to 125 liters. Mix the two solutions by pouring simultaneously in a third vessel by stirring thoroughly. Check the solution whether solution is neutralize or not with a clean knife or litmus paper. If there is brown spot in the blade of the knife add some more lime solution till spot does not appear on the blade. Ready solution must spray on the same day. It cannot be used for next day.
Bordeaux paste:
Dissolve 2 kg of copper sulphate in 15 liter of water. In another vessel take 3 kg of quick lime dissolve in 151itres of water. Mix the two together to form a paste. This can be applied to the cut ends of stem or nursery stock with brush.
Burgundy mixture:
It was discovered in 1887 as a substitute of Bordeaux mixture for areas where fresh lime was not available. It contains Sodium Carbonate in place of lime. It is less effective than Bordeaux mixture.
Chestnut compound:
It contains 2 parts of Copper Sulphate and 11 parts of Ammonium Carbonate. It is suspended in water and can be used as spray or for soil treatment.
Chaubattia paste:
It is used in apple orchards for the control of stem black, stem brown and pink diseases. It contains 800 gm copper carbonate, 800 gm red lead and 1 liter of raw linseed oil or lanolin.
Winter wash oil mixture:
This mixture of oil is sprayed during dormant season of temperate fruit to control the hidden pest inside the bark of trees as well as control of lichen and moss of the branches. 10 gm of caustic soda is mixed in 10 liters of water and again 100 gm winter wash oil is thoroughly mixed in the solution. 4litres solution is required to spray one full grown tree.
Liquid manure:
Liquid manure is prepared by steeping fresh horse or cow dung in water in an earlier pot for about a week. Dilute with water to colour of week tea for applying to plants. Liquid manure should be applied under wet condition. Mulch the soil to prevent crust formation.
